Three days in Geneva with Roger Dubuis
This week I was invited to Geneva for three days by Roger Dubuis. I wasn't given information about any itinerary or general theme of the trip, but based on my previous experiences with this great brand I could not say no. I was excited to discover what they had come up with this time.
Upon landing in Geneva, myself and four other guests were flown to Annecy by helicopter where we were welcomed in a beautiful chalet overlooking the lake of Annecy (in the image above I am wearing the Roger Dubuis Pirelli Sotto Zero with two flying tourbillons). After a great dinner, where we were taught by a professional chef how to cook our entrées and had one too many glasses of Ruinart (a potentially dangerous mix), we went to bed anxiously awaiting the next day's activities.
Morning came and we were transported back to the Roger Dubuis manufacture in Geneva. Approaching the manufacture, excitement levels rose sharply at the sight of a line-up of about 10 Lamborghinis, amongst which the SuperTrofeo Evo that was launched at Sant'Agata last September. As if that wasn't enough, we were told we would get a Lamborghini each to drive through the Swiss Jura mountains! With little interest left in eating our breakfast, I quickly chose the 600HP Huracan Spyder as my beast mode of transport of the day.
Driving a car of this calibre through the windy roads of the Jura mountains was one hell of an experience (in a good way!). Despite being deprived of what we were told were normally spectacular views, including that of Mont Blanc on the other side of the valley, the snowy and misty conditions had a special Swiss charm of their own. In a head-turning convoy of 3 Huracans and an Aventador, we drove for approximately three hours until arriving at Lutry where we had a private dining experience at the Domaine du Daley (fantastic Swiss wine).
All the while I had the pleasure of wearing the new Excalibur Aventador S featuring Lamborghini's famous Verde Mantis color which was revealed that same day. This is the latest release in the collection born from the Roger Dubuis x Lamborghini partnership. From a technical point of view the watch is a masterpiece, housing the all-new "Duotor" movement (calibre RD103 SQ) with two double sprung balances slanted at a 90° angle. From a visual point of view, its aggressive styling leaves no doubt as to why this partnership with Lamborghini is pure synergetic perfection.
After a helicopter trip back to Annecy to freshen up, we returned to the manufacture for a special dinner in the middle of what is usually Roger Dubuis' factory floor. You read that right: the long dinner table stood between all the machines where on a typical day scores of watchmakers in white coats are machine- and hand-finishing Roger Dubuis watches to the perfection required by the Geneva Seal. In attendance were non other than the top brass of Roger Dubuis, Lamborghini, and Pirelli, alongside top clients of these respective brands. A great evening was had by all and a late re-entry to the chalet in Annecy was only regretted the next morning when we had to wake up very early for a helicopter ride back to the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS).
At the GIMS we had the chance to see many exciting novelties but the showstopper for me was the new Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder. With the extensive use of its newly developed Forged Composites® Lamborghini was able to reduce the weight of the car by 35kg. This together with the use of a more powerful V10 engine gives the car an impressive 640HP!
After a very insightful lunch with none other than the CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué himself (the man credited with the impressive rebranding Roger Dubuis has gone through in the past couple of years), the fun came to an end and I headed to Geneva Airport for my return flight. This event once more proved to me that Roger Dubuis is a very promising brand that is in sync with modern times and most importantly with its clients. I look forward to living the next special experience with the Roger Dubuis family, and will spend the coming days figuring out what organs to sell so I can buy the Excalibur Aventador S!
Special thanks goes out to Jean-Marc, Dorothée, Olivier, Pauline, Valentin, Chloé, you are a rockstar team!
